FAQ

What high school year does the Academy start?

The majority of students begin the Academy as sophomores (having been selected during their freshman year).  However, a select few may begin SHJA as Juniors (having been selected during their sophomore year).

May I join SHJA as a senior?

No.  The California Partnership Academy (from the California Department of Education) does not allow students to participate in the SHJA as a senior.

Must I attend all field trips?

Yes.  The SHJA Student Contract states that all field trips are mandatory.

Students are allowed to miss 2 field trips per year due to absence.

Must I be in uniform?

Yes. The SHJA Student Contract states that all students must be in full uniform compliance every Tuesday (unless notified by SHJA staff).

What If I show up to a field trip and am not in uniform?

You will not be allowed to attend the trip.

What if I fail to remedy those items for which I am placed on probation?

If you fail to remedy the items for which you have been placed on probation within one semester, you are subject to removal from SHJA.

What if I am in ROTC?

You may be in ROTC and the SHJA at the same time.

SHJA will honor the ROTC uniform on most Tuesdays.  However, SHJA must be in the SHJA uniform for our field trips.

I am a freshman: How do I get into the Academy?
